smtp.cornell.edu No Longer Accepting Outgoing Email

The project to shift Cornell outgoing mail traffic from smtp.cornell.edu to smtp.office365.com for faculty and staff, and smtp.gmail.com for students and alumni, is complete. smtp.cornell.edu is no longer accepting connections.
The change was first communicated in late October to IT@Cornell staff and individuals who had connected to smtp.cornell.edu in 2019. Actual removal of individual accounts’ ability to connect began in January and concluded yesterday.
The completion of the work is a step toward the eventual decommissioning of smtp.cornell.edu. It’s the most recent effort to remove Cornell infrastructure from the path of incoming and outgoing email, allowing it to be handled exclusively by our email service providers, Microsoft and Google. Prior projects included a DNS change for POP and IMAP services, alumni email routing other than forwarding, student email routing, and faculty and staff email routing.
