SharePoint Online: Modern Experience Update Now Available

Beginning June 19, 2019, SharePoint Online users will experience a new modern look as their default site setting. The appearance of this change will affect sites currently set to classic mode by the default administrative setting. Classic mode is still available, but will no longer be the default option.

The new modern experience is designed to be flexible, mobile, and easier to use, with continuous scrolling. SharePoint users will benefit from enabled enhancements and new features such as attention views, column formatting, Excel exports, and the filters and information panes. (Note: Certain enhancements and features, like PowerApps and Flow, are not currently offered and supported by the central service.)

SharePoint users can easily toggle back and forth between the new and classic experiences, or the Site Collection Administrator can change the default for your site lists and libraries:

  • To return to the classic experience, click Return to classic SharePoint at the bottom left corner of your site page.
  • To exit the classic experience, click Exit classic experience at the bottom left corner of your site page.
