Node Router and Building 10GE uplink upgrade schedule: September–December 2017

The Infrastructure team is engaged in a two-year plan to upgrade all campus node routers to new Juniper routers and all building uplinks to 10G Ethernet.

To minimize user downtime, planned maintenance work will take place between 5 and 7am on the dates scheduled. In most cases, individual upgrades should require less than 5 minutes’ disruption. In situations where a switch needs to be replaced, work could take up to 30 minutes.

Wi-Fi VLANS span all the buildings connected to a single router and can be cut over on one day. Other router and switch work will affect both wired and Wi-Fi service at the same time.

Further email communications will be sent to network administrators of affected VLANS to allow them the opportunity to notify users. Exact dates for individual steps in the process will be scheduled at least a week ahead of time.
