Intermittent Internet Outages on Campus February 14, 2016

To improve our network connections on campus we are upgrading our core routers on campus. The scheduled cutover will be happening Sunday, February 14, 2016 between 5:00am – 7:00am.

During this time period there may be intermittent interruptions in connections to the wired and wireless networks on campus, as well as Voice over IP (VoIP) telephones. This message has been communicated to deans, department heads, and directors so you may receive questions about this. We ask that you be aware of the scheduled maintenance window and plan accordingly.

We are taking these steps to ensure that our network can handle increased traffic to the cloud; benefit researchers who need massive data streams for their work; and to be ready for future updates that allow our network to be able to grow.

There is the risk that an Internet outage could be longer than the planned maintenance window. If that occurs we have procedures in place to notify departments and campus if the outage will be prolonged.
