Announcing the Microsoft Azure Authentication Project
Related services: Authentication
The Microsoft Azure Authentication project will upgrade the sign-in process for Microsoft services like Office 365 (Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, Word, Excel, etc.), ensuring Cornell has the latest authentication security and features. This upgrade will help protect access to the Microsoft applications and services you rely on every day.
What is changing?
While the new Microsoft sign-in experience looks slightly different, it works the same way. To preview the experience, visit the Microsoft Azure Authentication page. You will continue to log in as you do now with a Cornell NetID and password.
Behind the scenes, Microsoft Azure's cloud-based login service will replace Microsoft Active Directory Federation Services to improve security and save costs associated with on-premises infrastructure.
What is the timeline for this project?
The deadline to complete migration to Microsoft Azure Authentication is spring 2023. The pilot program began in spring 2022, and CIT will start using Microsoft Azure Authentication on November 1, 2022. The rollout for colleges and units will be coordinated with IT Service Groups across campus. Stay tuned to your Cornell email for additional project updates.
