Types of Net-Print Printers

This article focuses on the different kinds of print queues you can select from.

This article applies to: Net-Print

There are more than 180 printers connected to Net-Print, with a variety of features.

Here we focus on the different kinds of print queues you can select from.

  • At service launch (January 2017), about 40% are equipped with ID Readers. When you send a document to one of these printers, it will not print until you get to the printer, wave your Cornell ID card at it, and follow the instructions on the tablet device.
  • The rest of the printers do not have ID Readers. When you send a document to one of these printers, it prints right away.
  • In addition, there are two special "Find Me" queues called campus-bw and campus-color.

When you send a document to campus-bw, you can go to ANY Net-Print printer with an ID Reader. Wave your Cornell ID card at it and follow the instructions on the tablet device and your document will print.

When you send a document to campus-color, you can go to ANY color-capable Net-Print printer with an ID Reader. Wave your Cornell ID card at it and follow the instructions on the tablet device and your document will print.

Many users will find it simpler to just install these two queues and not install any specific printers.

There is also a workaround method for getting documents to print at printers with ID Readers when you don't happen to have your ID with you.
