Problem: Email from a Cornell Address Rejected or Refused

Sometimes we get reports that email sent from addresses to external addresses (or forwarded from a Cornell address to an external address) is being rejected or having delivery refused. At various times this has happened when sending to Spectrum/Time Warner, to AOL, and to other service providers.

This is a recurring but temporary problem that indicates one or more of our email servers has triggered some security system at the receiving end; the service provider's email system thinks our system is infected or sending spam or something along those lines. It usually does NOT mean there is a problem with your email account.

When this happens, we work with the service provider to clear the blockage and take steps to decrease the chances of it happening again.

Our only workaround is to try again later. Sometimes a message will get through on the second try.
