This page is intended for IT support professionals. End users should contact local IT support.

Smart computer groups are dynamic membership groupings of computers in the Casper inventory, and are built against the values of inventory attributes of already-managed computers.

  1. Log into your JSS site at https://jssmgt.it.cornell.edu/<JSSInstance>
replacing <JSSInstance> with your instance's name.
    For example, https://jssmgt.it.cornell.edu/limnology
  2. Click Computers.
  3. In the left nav, click Smart Computer Groups.
  4. Click the blue plus sign icon.
  5. Enter a Display Name.
  6. Select your Site.
(If no sites have been defined, you will not see this field. That's okay, just continue with the next step.)
  7. Click the Criteria tab.
  8. Click the blue plus sign icon.
  9. Define your smart group by clicking Choose next to one of the criteria (for example, Building), then specifying the criterion:
    1. Select the desired Operator.
    2. To specify a value, click the ellipsis (three dots) icon after the Value field, then select the desired entry from the list displayed.
    3. Repeat as needed (see logic notes below) to build your smart group.
  10. Click Save.

Logic Notes

  • To create compound criteria, click the blue plus sign icon again.
  • When you define multiple criteria, you specify whether to use "and" or "or" logic (in the And/Or column).
  • You can group criteria together with parentheses using the drop-downs to the right of the And/Or column and to the left of the Delete buttons. In the example below, the criteria logic reads

( Computer Group and Computer Name ) or Model
