Add Users to a Confluence Space
This article applies to: Confluence
To be added to Confluence, a person needs either a NetID or an External Confluence Collaborator account (How does a Confluence space administrator request an External Confluence Collaborator account?). Please verify that they do before using the procedures listed here.

Section One is for the people who are to be given access to a space.
People with NetIDs
- Go to the Confluence login screen. https://confluence.cornell.edu/login.action
- Log in with your NetID and NetID password.
- Tell the person who invited you to join this space that you have completed these steps.
You will not have proper access to the space until the administrator completes the steps in section two below for your account.
People with External Confluence Collaborator Accounts
You must have received your External Confluence Collaborator account from the Confluence space administrator before you can complete these steps.
- Go to the Confluence login screen. https://confluence.cornell.edu/login.action
- Under Guest collaborators, click . The system will generate a random password and send it to your email address.
- Use your External Confluence Collaborator account ID and the new password to log in on the Confluence login screen.
- Tell the person who invited you to join this space that you have completed these steps.
You will not have proper access to the space until the administrator completes the steps in section two below for your account.

- On the line that now shows the user you just added, set the various permission levels. A green check means they have the permission. A red X means they do not. See our Set Permissions for a Confluence Space article for a description of each permission.
- Repeat steps 4 and 5 for additional users as needed.
- Click when you are finished.
Let your users know that they are all set to collaborate in your space.
