Add Windows Printers in CoECIS

Not connected to CornellAD (More Common)

Windows 7

  1. Click Start, then Devices and Printers
  2. Click Add printer
  3. Choose Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer.
  4. The computer will begin to search for printers. Click Stop, then The printer that I want isn't listed.
  5. Click the radio button in front of Select a shared printer by name. 
  6. Enter the following string \\132.236.207.25\ (please be sure to enter the \ at the end of the string.)
  7. Printers will begin to appear (this may take a while).
  8. The format of the printer name is department-building-room_number-printermodel.
  9. Select the printer you wish to add. We have found that the PS drivers work better than the PCL drivers for most people.
  10. After you have selected the printer, your computer will download the correct printer driver from the server and install it on your computer. 
  11. Click Next. You can then select this as your default printer if you wish. You can also print a test page. 
  12. When you are done, click Finish, and the printer should appear in your list of printers.

Windows 10

  1. Click Settings>Devices>Printers & Scanners
  2. Click Add a Printer or Scanner
  3. A scan will start, when “The printer that I want isn’t listed” appears, click that link
  4. Click the radio button in front of Select a shared printer by name
  5. Enter the following string\\132.236.207.25\ (please be sure to enter the \ at the end of the string.)
  6. Printers will begin to appear
Some Windows 10 systems may need to make the following registry edits in order to see available printers
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\LanmanWorkstation\Parameters\AllowInsecureGuestAuth to 1
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\LanmanWorkstation\Parameters\RequireSecuritySignature to 0
  1. The format of the printer name is department-building-room_number printer model.
  2. Select the printer you wish to add. We have found that the PS drivers work better than the PCL drivers for most people.
  3. Click Next
  4. After you have selected the printer, your computer will download the correct printer driver from the server and install it on your computer. 
  5. You will have an option to rename the printer, click Next
  6. At this point you should be able to print a test page.
  7. Then click Finish.
  8. Check the output tray for your test print. 

Connected to CornellAD

Windows XP

  1. Click Start, then Printers and Faxes
  2. From the File menu, choose Add a printer
  3. Choose to add a network printer, then choose Find a printer in the directory.

Windows 7

  1. Click Start, then Devices and Printers
  2. Click Add printer
  3. Choose Add a network printer, then The printer I want wasn't listed, then choose Find printer in the directory.
  4. When the browse window comes up, click Cancel.
  5. Type your department in the Name field.
  6. Click Find now.
  7. Printers with the location will populate in the Search Results field.  
  8. From the list of printers, highlight the printer you want and click OK.
  9. You'll see a message Connecting to the printer while it is being installed.
  10. When it is finished another dialog box will appear saying you've successfully added the printer. Click Next.
  11. At the next window you can choose to print a test page or click Finish.
