Send Plain or Rich Text Messages in Apple Mail

This procedure will set the default format of your Apple Mail messages.

This article applies to: Apple Mail

  1. From the Mail menu, select Preferences.
  2. Click Composing in the toolbar.
  3. From the Message Format dropdown list, select either Plain Text or Rich Text (HTML).
  4. Close the Composing dialog box.

You can switch to a different format for an individual message by choosing Make Rich Text (or Make Plain Text) from the Format menu while composing your message.

Safe Links can affect URLs sent in a plain text message.
